Don't forget to maintain your window and room air conditioners. You can have this professionally done by services like Sears Home Central, but you can also do it yourself in an hour or so. The most difficult part is removing the heavy unit from your window. If you cannot find help for this, even if you are strong, have it professionally services.

Once you get it out of the window, remove the sheet metal cover. All you can do is clean off the indoor and outdoor coils and make sure that the water drain line is open Vacuum them off or wipe them down to get off heavy dirt deposits. A vinegar solution will help get off some deposits. Wipe off the fan blades too. You cannot check freon pressures because these use sealed refrigerant systems.
