Dulley's Money-Saving Tip #1123

Clean window weep holes

(related column topic links - 445, 523, 689)

Over winter, and especially in the spring with all of the fine seeds from trees and scrubs, the weep holes in your window frames can get clogged. If these get clogged, water will stand in the lower window frame sections.

This in itself is not inefficient. If the water stands for a long time though, it can deteriorate the weatherstripping and cause a mildew problem. Also if a heavier buildup of fine debris collects, it can keep the weatherstripping from sealing well when you close your windows.
