Dulley's Money-Saving Tip #1003

Use soaker hose to save water and plants

You can really run up your water bills in the summer when watering your lawn and gardens. The most efficient (uses the least water) type of low-cost watering is a soaker hose. Using a soaker hose (has many tiny holes along its length) directs all the water into the ground exactly where you need it. When using a regular sprinkler, much of the water evaporates into the air. In the summer, the last thing that most of us need is more humidity in the air.

Also, watering the ground is better for your plants. It is not good for a plant to have wet leaves in the bright hot sun. Also, many plants, like roses, then to develop more fungus problems when the leaves are wet.
