Hardy Perennial. This is a useful groundcover for mild climates. Leaves are glossy, dark green and the flowers are held above the foliage on ascending stems. Stems without flowers are prostrate and form a good groundcover in moist, shady conditions. There is a variegated form of this plant which is popular for use in hanging baskets and containers. A recommended cultivar is 'Elegantissima'.
