Hardy Perennial. These dainty native plants spread out in spring with crisp, fernlike foliage of paired leaflets and neat, long-lasting sprays of flowers of light to deep cobalt blue with orange stamens. Alternate leaflets resemble a ladder. Jacob's Ladder is recommended for rock gardens as well as borders. Cultivation needs include rich, moist but well-drained soil. This perennial does not tolerate humid and hot conditions. Does best in Northern and Western zones of growth. When propagating by seed, remember they require constant moisture and humidity. You may also propagate by division in spring or autumn. 'Blue Light' is the cultivar pictured.
