Perennial. This attractive plant may be grown as a half-hardy annual in colder climates. In milder climates, it is evergreen and above the silvery-green foliage are borne multi-colored daisy-like flowers of yellow, orange, gold, red or cream. The flowers have a dark center and make a bold appearance in the garden. Some petals are striped, adding to their already arresting appearance. At night the blooms will close. Gazania rigens is salt and drought tolerant. Well-drained, light or sandy soil is required and they will perform best in full sun. Cover seeds when sowing as darkness aids in germination. Division may be done successfully in warm climates.
