Hardy Perennial. This is a striking perennial for the back of the shady border. Tall and stately, this plant has long spires of soft, white flowers above its attractive foliage. It never needs staking. Likes a moist environment and would do well beside a stream or on a pond bank. Division may be done in the spring or fall, but unless you just want to increase the number of growing sites, C. racemosa is best left undisturbed. Will need partial shade in warmer climates and actually does best in cooler areas. Dramatic grouped at the back of the border. The flowers show up well against a dark hedge, fence or evergreen tree. Used as a medication for rheumatism in folk medicine.
