Hardy Perennial. This is the columbine that is native to Europe and is grown for its spurred, blue flowers that bloom in midsummer. The variety A. vulgaris 'plena' is a non-spurred form with double flowers of rose, white or lavender which bloom in the spring. They prefer the well-drained, humus-rich soil of their native woodlands and will grow in full sun or part shade.
