Tender Annual. Here we are at the backbone of the American annual flower bed, blooming for months in warm weather. Marigolds are among the most well-known and best-loved flowering plants and they are have hundreds of cultivars to choose from. They are native to our neighboring Mexico. This species, T. erecta, can grow as high as 3 feet tall, making it an ideal choice for the back of a mixed bed or center of an island bed. Camellia-shaped varieties are available and may be yellow, orange or creamy white. Remove faded blooms to encourage new bloom development.
