Half-hardy Annual. Good cut flower with erect, showy blossoms that resemble a varicolored ostrich's plume and available in a variety of colors - yellow, orange, red, pink or purple. Needs full sun and rich, well-drained, sandy soil. This may be grown as a houseplant, in warm and sunny conditions, with evenly moist, humusy soil. Cool soil and temperatures may stunt plant growth. Red-leaved varieties are the most heat tolerant. 'Forest Fire' is the pictured cultivar.
