2001 model? Freon won't be available next year?
Something does not compute here. Unless I am mistaken, the only refrigerant ever commonly used in residential systems that is endangered is freon 12. That went away from residential systems when rotary compressors become common, long long long before 2001. I'd tell you to find a few different contractors. I mean unless your house is like 10,000 sq ft, repairs of $1500-$2500 sound real dear to me, and replacement for a less than 10 year old unit at $5,000 -$7,000--GIVE ME A FRIGGIN' BREAK!!! My unit is 15 years old. There have never been any leaks in it. The service people say it is as good as the day it was installed. I know I don't use any more power in the summer than I did in 1995.
