I recently had my central air system annually inspected and the tech noted a low freon reading. He suspects that it may have leaking coils and the repairs would run $1500 to $2500 depending on whether it was 1 or both coils. He noted another issue of part availability(the unit is a 2001 model).
When I talked to the manager to get more details, he told me that my system will soon be obsolete and starting next year, freon would no longer be allowed by government mandate. Quotes for a new unit were $5000 to $7000.
Am I being set-up for a scam?
