All compressors have a set of heaters that make sure that the refrigerant is boiled out of the compressor oil. They are energized any time there is power to the unit i.e. when the breaker is on. You can save a couple nickles on your power bill if you turn the compresswor breaker off during the winter when there is no chance of trying to cool the place. Just be certain to energize the breaker a couple days before you actually switch to "COOL".

Oh...no one ever mentioned doing that.

: : George...I don't really know what you are talking about! I'm talking about whether I should cover my compressor for my AC outside. I didn't say anything about oil heaters or breakers???
