The ceramic base of my first spiral fluorescent bulb arced to the lamp shade harp. It ate a hole through the ceramic and was buzzing away when I found it. Next I had the same type lamp turn black where the glass tube enters the ceramic base and boy did it stink. The house smelled for a couple days. Today when I turned on the lights in the garage another spiral fluorescent went pop but there was no burning or arcing. Three bulbs bad in maybe 3 months and each with low usage and a couple that might have created bad consequences. I really question their use in my house.
