I will be striping the sheet rock and 60 yr old wall insulation in a number of rooms in my home. I plan to seal air leaks and install new insulation. I have 2x4 walls so I'm limited on the thickness and R value of insulation I can install (R-15 std pink batts). I am also conserned that the 2x4's themselves conduct heat from the room to the outside in the winter. I saw a 1/4" rolled radiant insulation with a claimed R-4 rating and I'm considering installing that against the exterior sheathing then installig the batts, for a R-20 total, plus radiant heat transfer reduction. Is there anything else that should be done, such as installing a foam board between the studs and new sheetrock?
