: Blower Whining –

: I recently had a Rheem modulating furnace and two-zone heating/cooling installed. They also installed a 10 inch bypass damper and a 3.5 ton air conditioner.

: I had a problem with my blower motor whining which was caused by too much backpressure in my duct work. The contractor is talking about two solutions.

: 1.Increase my bypass damper to 12 inches.
: 2.Reduce my blower speed.

: Is one option preferred or does it not matter?

: Thanks,
: Jerry

Jerry, I would not reduce the blower speed very much because that will reduce the efficiency of the heat transfer from the neat exchanger.
